Marco Calleja
Maltese-born, MARCO CALLEJA is a performer, director, producer, educator, and TV host. He graduated with an MA in Advanced Theatre Practice from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, London in 2017.
In Malta, he has worked with various companies on several plays, pantomimes, musicals and ballets. He also set up his theatre company, Hoi Polloi Theatre Company in 2004. He then branched out into performing arts education by setting up the Hoi Polloi Academy in 2013.
In 2016, he moved to London to read for an MA in Advanced Theatre Practice at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and graduated in 2017. This fuelled Marco’s passion for theatre-devising, movement and interdisciplinary work. He is greatly interested in re-visiting existing work through a new contemporary lens and in creating new theatre-work which critiques and questions current issues whilst engaging and moving its audiences.
Having an undergraduate degree in the life sciences, Marco is also interested in exploring how the arts and the sciences can cross-over and inform each other – a pretty ‘explosive’ and exciting combination.
