The Creative Hub
The Creative Hub and Hoi Polloi Academy came to life in 2004, as Hoi Polloi Theatre Productions stepped into the spotlight. Back then, enthusiastic sixth formers, alongside experienced theatre professionals, collaborated to stage the vibrant production of SINDI RELLA – A Summer Panto.
Under the guidance of Director and Actor Marco Calleja, Hoi Polloi Academy has a history of successful productions, including CATS (VCT, 2019), The Wizard of Oz (MFCC, 2012), Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (MCC, 2011), and This Thing Called Love (Teatru Manoel, 2006).
A versatile artist, Maltese-born Marco Calleja effortlessly wears multiple hats, assuming roles as a director, producer, educator, TV host, and performer. His focus shifted towards fostering emerging talent when he established Hoi Polloi Academy in 2013.
In 2016, Marco embarked on an academic journey, pursuing an MA in Advanced Theatre Practice at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London. There, he honed his skills in theatre devising and interdisciplinary work, broadening his creative horizons significantly.
This transformative experience paved the way for the founding of the Creative Hub in Qormi, Malta, in 2018, which has been the nurturing home of HPA ever since.
