Graziella Debattista

Graziella DeBattista is a dedicated Maltese dramatic mezzo-soprano who has cultivated her talent through rigorous academic and practical training. She holds a degree from the University of Malta, where she studied under the guidance of Dione Buhagiar. To further refine her skills, Graziella pursued a Master’s in Performance at the Royal Academy of Music in London, studying with Jonathan Papp and Ryland Davies. She continues to develop her artistry with the support of renowned soprano Barbara Frittoli.

 

Graziella has performed a variety of roles in numerous concerts and productions, demonstrating her versatility and commitment to her craft. She was honoured to be one of the winners of the Pasquale Pappano International Opera Competition in Benevento, an achievement that has encouraged her to continue striving for excellence. In her commitment to continuous learning, Graziella has participated in several masterclasses and summer programs, working alongside esteemed artists such as Ian Partridge, Angela Gheorghiu, Carmen Giannattasio, Dolora Zajick, and Antonio Pappano. These experiences have greatly contributed to her growth as a performer. Graziella made her operatic debut at the Teatro Filarmonico di Verona, where she performed the role of Zia Principessa. This was followed by a performance in Ecuba by Gian Francesco Malipiero at the historic Teatro Olimpico di Vicenza, the oldest theatre in the world. Both opportunities were significant milestones in her career.

 

In 2024, Graziella returned to the stage with Opera Spanga in the Netherlands, performing the role of Emilia in Verdi’s Otello. She had previously collaborated with Opera Spanga in 2019, where she portrayed the character of Frugola in Il Tabarro. Graziella DeBattista remains committed to her artistic journey, continually seeking to deepen her interpretative skills and share her passion for opera with audiences.
