Rabat, Malta – March 2027 — Hallelujah! Following the resounding success of Shrek JR., Hoi Polloi Academy returns to the stage with another high-energy, heart-filled musical as its students bring Sister Act JR. to life at Saint Agatha’s Auditorium, Rabat.

This joyful, soul-lifting production tells the story of Deloris Van Cartier, a bold and ambitious singer who is forced into hiding at the Queen of Angels convent after witnessing a crime. What follows is a clash of worlds that turns into a celebration of individuality, community, and the power of finding — and using — your voice.

At Hoi Polloi Academy, Sister Act JR. is more than a show. It is the culmination of a student-centred, process-driven training journey, building on the Academy’s proven approach to musical theatre education. After the discipline, teamwork, and artistic growth demonstrated in Shrek JR., students now take on a piece that demands vocal confidence, ensemble precision, comic timing, and emotional truth.

As Deloris reinvents the convent choir, the nuns discover strength, joy, and unity through music. The result is a vibrant ensemble-driven score packed with humour, harmony, and irresistible energy — brought to life by a cast of young performers trained across acting, singing, and movement.

ABOUT THE SHOW

Based on the hit film, Sister Act JR. features music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Glenn Slater, and a book by Cheri and Bill Steinkellner, with additional book material by Douglas Carter Beane. The stage musical premiered in London’s West End in 2009, followed by a Broadway run in 2011 that earned multiple Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical.
