THIS WEEKEND: Disney’s The Little Mermaid JR hits the Valletta Campus Theatre

Get ready for a wave of excitement as Disney’s The Little Mermaid JR surfaces at VALLETTA CAMPUS THEATRE (formerly MITP)! The captivating tale will grace the stage presented by the Hoi Polloi Academy (HPA) in their newest musical production.

Experience the magic of a Disney classic starting this Friday, November 24th, all the way through to Sunday, November 26th, as local Maltese talent delivers captivating performances! The show invites audiences to dive into a world of wonder down at the ocean floor as the timeless tale of a spirited young mermaid named Ariel unfolds, based on the Hans Christian Andersen story and stage book by Doug Wright.

Ariel’s heart yearns to explore life above the ocean waves, leading her on a journey filled with daring decisions, magical encounters, and the pursuit of true love. Yet, to follow her dreams, Ariel must navigate through challenges, including defying her powerful father Triton, striking a perilous deal with the malevolent sea witch Ursula, and winning the heart of the charming Prince Eric with her enchanting voice.

“We’re delighted to showcase the amazing talent of our young performers and creative team,” says Marco A. Calleja, Executive Producer and Director at HPA. “Join us for a splendid retelling of the Disney classic under the sea!”

Disney’s The Little Mermaid JR features beloved songs from the original film, such as Part of Your World and Under the Sea by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman. New songs written for the stage adaptation will also feature. With colourful costumes, stunning set designs, and spectacular choreography, HPA ensures a magical experience for the whole family.

“This production is more than just a show, it’s a journey of imagination and self-discovery,” stated Erika Quinn, HPA Parent and School Administrator, describing her experience working on the show. “By helping young people develop their creative talents through engagement, exploration, and expression in the theatre, they acquire lifelong skills that benefit them beyond the stage.”

Following this ethos, the performance will feature adolescents enrolled in the Hoi Polloi Academy for the Performing Arts, under the adroit guidance of Marco A. Calleja as Director, Rebecca Attard as Music Director, and Maria Agius Muscat as Choreographer.
